1937 Mercedes-Benz 540 K Special Roadster

The company Mercedes-Benz has always been known as a supplier of magnificent cars which are in great demand among the political, artistic and commercial aristocracy. Released before World War II, the model of 540K was the culmination of the development of models of prestigious brands.

Constant updating and improvement of the lower and middle models led the company’s management, in order to maintain the prestige of the brand, to undertake the development of new vehicles.

The first car in this series -- Mercedes-Benz 380K was unveiled at the Berlin Motor Show in 1933 and already in 1934, replaced by 500K. The car received its final development in 1936 as a Mercedes-Benz 540K model. All these models are based on a solid spar steel frame, the new eight-cylinder overhead valve engine sacking with a traditional compressor and an independent spring suspension on all wheels. Engine displacement increased from 3796 cm3 to 5401 cm3 over three years, and its capacity (included with the compressor) has increased from 120 to 180 horsepower.

Each of the 406 samples of the540K Series, built from 1936 to 1939 were going individually to the highest German standards using the finest materials. Many cars carry the best custom body shops of the world, but most are completely made in the Mercedes-Benz factory.
