The car was taken out of the vault, sunk in four feet of water for many years. After it was cleared by a hazmat team, the car was taken to the Convention Center, the location of the unveiling. Inside the car there was mud and rust. The beer cans together with the oil and gasoline were found in the trunk, however they were in a very bad shape, with the cans rusted through, leaking the beer.
The keys in the ignition were found all in rust. Under the hood, the engine was all tightly covered with rust. Due to all the rust and mud attached to the cosmoline, the car was red and brown. The hazmat team cleaned one portion of the front bumper and as a big surprise they found shiny chrome underneath it.
One interesting fact during the party back in 1957, was that residents of Tulsa were asked to guess the population of the city 50 years in the future. Their answers were all sealed in a steel container and placed in the Belvedere. The person who would win the competition or their heir was supposed to receive the 1957 Plymouth Belvedere together with a 100 dollars trust fund which was accruing interest since 1957. Now this fund contained 400 dollars.
