The Future of Audi: Three Innovations to Look Forward to

In January 2018, Audi was awarded “Most Innovative Automaker” at the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas. Last year it was named the most innovative brand at the Automotive Innovations Award Show and Audi is constantly on top of technological advances. This is because from 2015 to 2019 the luxury car brand embarked on the biggest investment program in its history. Audi invested 24 billion euros in product development, technology, and innovation over the past three years and the money is clearly being put to good use. Check out what Audi has in store for its customers over the next couple of years.

The Audi Aicon Self-Driving Car

The next technical advancement in the automotive industry is self-driving cars. Every automaker is racing down the finish line to develop the first successful and safe autonomous car with superior performance and reliability that will mean you won’t have the repair service on speed dial. However, Audi may be pulling ahead with its Aicon Self-Driving Car. Revealed at the 2017 Frankfurt Auto show, the self-driving car has no steering wheels or pedals. Everything is controlled by voice, gestures, and touch. Not only is the car straight out of a science fiction movie, but it’s also environmentally-friendly. The Aicon is a fully-electric car with wireless charging capabilities and 435 miles per gallon. This is one of the most advanced autonomous car plans currently on the market and according to Audi, we’ll see the Aicon riding down busy urban streets by 2021.

The 2019 Audi A8

The latest Audi A8 is the first step towards Audi’s Aicon concept. It is one of the most advanced cars currently available to consumers. The vehicle is surrounded by sensors that provide driver assistance during critical times. Its 360-degree cameras, 12 ultrasound cameras, and LIDAR technology allow drivers to engage adaptive cruise assist, which pilots the car at the desired speed range within designated lanes, and crossing assist, which automatically brakes if another vehicle dangerously crosses in front of the car. It also allows owners to utilize a detachable tablet to self-park while outside the vehicle or auto-park while you’re inside. The cameras are constantly scanning ahead for dangers and can adjust the car and pre-lift the body if it detects a bump in the road ahead or any types of debris.

Communicating with Traffic Lights

Wouldn’t you love it if you knew when traffic lights were going to change? Well, Audi has developed this technology and is rolling it out in some of its new vehicles. This technology, known as Audi’s Traffic Light Information System (TLI), utilizes real-time information from traffic signals and displays it on the car’s onboard 4G LTE connected heads-up display. You will see a countdown timer appear on the car’s gauge which will tell you how much time is left at the traffic light you are currently stopped at. In the future, this will connect to navigation and GPS services to create a better, predictive service that will tell you exactly what time you will arrive at a destination or create re-routes based on traffic signals.

Audi is not only one of the most luxurious cars on the roads, but it’s also one of the most advanced. In the near future, we can see self-driving, self-parking, and self-communicating cars that will help you get from A to Z faster, safer, and more efficient.
