1978 Dodge Little Red Express
The Dodge L’il Red Truck was unveiled in March, 1978. Strictly speaking, the new model, was not planned as it is a little red express, but it was a logical continuation of the Dodge Warlock project, being a “beefy pickup” on wide wheels, with a powerful engine and an abundance of chromium finish. It was planned that the express will become the model “Red Warlock”, but instead it was decided to change the name to express and let’s see what it has given us.
The Red Express was built on a shortened wheelbase length of 115 inches, whereas the stiffer suspension and sport tires significantly improved the handling, but the main course was not so, but that which under the hood played as a “boiler” of the Express -- the 360 V8 rated at 360 hp.
Since this truck was a brilliant representative of the so-called “adult toys” the most important thing in it besides the technical features was certainly the appearance, and there was something to see. On the loading platform was a natural oak finish in the style of the bootleggers’ pickups from the 1920s. Behind the cab were towered chrome tailpipes decent for the rather large truck, but still not for a big truck.
And most importantly, what others would not forget is that in front of them was an exclusive muscle car, and not just a hard working pickup, on the sides of the doors there were golden decals with the name of the truck.
Unfortunately, the economic situation did not allow this machine to live a long life and it quickly came to be replaced with another, more modest and economical vehicle. In total, from 1978 to 1980 was released about 7,000 little red express samples. The price of the new truck in 1978 hovered around $ 7,422, and a list of options has increased it even more.
