For 8 years the scientists were testing one of the most remarkable ships ever built, IX529 Sea Shadow. By the name you can feel the terror of this ship, she a dangerous shadow. After the day light is gone, she is the queen on the seas.
U.S. Navy also call her the stealth ship! She looks like cockroach heading across the water, and her radical shape makes her invisible for the enemy radars! For the first time she was unveiled for the public in 1993 as the most expensive sea-concept worth $295 million.
The design bellow the water, submerged twin-hulls, was allowing her to stay stable even at sea state 6, which means 18ft tall waves! Each hull had a propeller (diesel-electric) which was able to accomplish speed at 16mph. The part of the ship which was above the water was connected through two angled struts with the hulls above the water.
But this ship was not destined to live long, and she didn’t leave us some legacy! She was only inspiration for the James Bond movie “Tomorrow Never Dies” with original appear as Sea Shadow in the movie!
And her life ended in 2012 when she was dismantled and torn into scrap metal.
You can see her on the video bellow cruising on the seas!
