Tatra is an automobile manufacturer based in Kopřivnice, the Czech Republic. It is named after the Tatras Mountains. The company was founded in 1850 with the name of Nesselsdorfer Wagenbau-Fabriksgesellschaft, engaged in the manufacture of carriages and wagons. In 1897 it became the first producer of the motor vehicle in Central Europe, Präsident. In 1919 the company changed its name to Tatra. Some argue that Tatra is the third oldest manufacturer of cars after Mercedes Benz and Peugeot. Tatra ceased producing passenger cars in 1999 but still produces a successful range of all-terrain 4×4 tow trucks, 6×6, 8×8 10×10 and 12×12. Their trucks are definitely outstanding machines!
