A flat tire can be quite frustrating especially if you’re far away from civilization, or if it happened in the middle of an important thing. It can be very dangerous if it happens while driving at high speed on the highway.

The solution may soon come in the form of Tweel, a tire which will never go flat or be punctured. This patent of Michelin uses rubber slings instead of pressure chambers and has been in development for the last ten years.

So far Tweel was used on wheelchairs, space vehicles and various working machines, and after Michelin decided to invest $ 50 million in the plant to promote this technology, we can expect that these tires will soon appear in the automotive industry.

However in the beginning these tires will be fitted for SUVs because Tweel is showing the best results at low speeds and hard surfaces. Their plan in the future is to change that, and these tires to be applicable with cars as well.
