Kuwait is a souvenir nation and very good friends with the United States, so it was clear that US could not seat and do nothing. The result was a hard core attack by the US Army, in a coalition with other 33 ally countries and the birth of the famous Desert Storm Operation. When it became clear and obvious even to Sadam himself that this war is lost, his final decision was to give an order (executed by his generals) to set over a seven hundred oil wells on fire.
The result of this insane decision was a black cloud over the Arabian peninsula for a long time and images of American soldiers and other military equipment operating right next to thick black plumes of smoke, all covered in dust are some of the most recognizable and iconic images of the Desert Storm Operation.
