Hello there my good friends and fellow car lovers. Today we bring you another great episode of the British TV show Wheeler Dealers. And you know well what that means – another cool car to be restored and brought to perfection. Car enthusiast Mike Brewer and his skillful mechanics Edd China are more than ready and happy to do it. In this episode they picked quite a fine ride for the purpose of their restoration project. We are quite happy with their choice, since this car is indeed a class of its one. We are speaking of a 1987 Mercedes Benz 560SL convertible. Back in its time, with output of 227 horsepower this car was the most powerful Mercedes Benz SL of the decade. It took Edd a lot of hard work with the process being a real pain, as Edd says, but in the end it was all worth it. The final result of the project turned out just great!

Let’s see what work was completed on this car. Fuel injectors replaced, timing chain and plastic chain guides replaced, HVAC air vent vacuum actuators replaced with new ones from the Mercedes-Benz Classic Centre in Irvine, California, the heater box was also fixed, the old dashboard with cracks on it was reupholstered in some nice German vinyl, leather seats were recovered, the veneer panels of the center console were replaced, the front suspension was refurbished with new shock absorbers, new anti-roll bar end links and lower springs, the subframe mounting bushings on the front suspension were replaced, aftermarket wheel arch chrome trim was removed, U.S. spec bumpers and headlights replaced with Euro spec models, and finally a set of period correct Lorinser LO wheels were installed.

The car was bought in the sunny Los Angeles, California. You will notice that during the episode, Mike and Edd mentioned the movie American Gigolo filmed in 1980 several times. The reason for that was the fact this movie had a Mercedes Benz 560SL model that was similar to the car being restored. After the process was all finished, Mike and Edd took the beautifully restored 1987 Mercedes Benz 560SL to Autobooks-Aerobooks, a bookstore in Burbank, California, where they signed copies of their Wheeler Dealers Car Restoration Manual.
