5 Car Safety Tips You Need to Know To Avoid a Car Accident

Most of us wouldn’t be able to live without our cars – they allow us to go wherever we want, whenever we want, and at a faster speed than ever before. But, with speed, comes the possibility of danger. People who are more aware of the dangers around them will be able to minimize them. Here are some of our top safety tips that all drivers should know to avoid an auto accident:

1.     Don’t Drink Drive

This one is pretty obvious to most people, but you may be unaware that even after a good meal and a good night’s sleep you may still be over the legal limit in the morning. It’s tricky to tell if our blood alcohol levels are above the legal limit. A general rule is that if you have more than a couple of drinks, then it’s a good idea to ask someone else to drive or think about getting a taxi or public transport home. If you consume a lot of alcohol in the evening, then you may still be over the limit the next morning. Auto accidents after consuming too much alcohol are a serious matter. If this happens to you, then you should contact a lawyer who will be able to advise you on what to do next.

2.     Inspect Your Tires Regularly

Your car’s tires are the only part of your car that comes into contact with the road surface. You need to make sure they remain in good condition so that you can stay safe on the road. Look at your tire tread to make sure it’s within the safe limits of your car, tire, and country’s recommendations. You also need to look at your tire pressure and make sure it is within the right range.

3.     Don’t Use Your Phone

It is against the law to use your phone whilst you’re driving. If you are using your phone while driving, you’re not concentrating on the road in front of you. Driving is hard at the best of times, so it requires all your concentration. If you need to send a text message, then it’s a good idea to pull over in a safe space and turn your engine off before doing so.

4.     Sunglasses Come in Handy

The sun can have a huge impact on your ability to drive. Often, the sun is so bright that we struggle to make out things on the road in front of us. Having a pair of sunglasses in the car that you can wear when the sun is bright can be a lifesaver. Even a cheap pair of glasses can make a huge difference when visibility is bad due to the sun being low.

5.     Take a Break

We see a number of news stories about people who have had terrible auto accidents due to them being tired or having traveled a long distance. If you’re planning a long trip, then you should consider stopping for a rest every two hours. When you stop your car, you should get out and stretch your legs. Having a break will also help give your eyes a break.

Almost everyone in this day and age owns a car. It can become all too easy to switch off while we’re driving, but it’s important that we don’t. Make sure you take regular breaks, concentrate on the road, and have items handy to help with your vision. All of these tips will help keep you and others safe on the road.
