Callaway C4 Twin Turbo Sledgehammer Corvette is a car that has graced the cover of not one eminent glossy car magazine. And it became so famous thanks to one very talented Ely Reeves Callaway tuner, under whose wrench was published a large number of turbo cars with incredible features.
The history of Corvette Callaway starts with the contract between Dave McLellan, the chief designer of the Chevrolet Corvette and Ely Reeves Callaway III about creating a Corvette version with twin-turbo technology. So it came the light version of C4.
It should be noted that this is the only car in the history of General Motors, which was sold in a special tuned version commercially available under the brand of the company. When ordering such a machine, theregular Corvette would go on a modification, where in its design professionals would made more than 1000 changes, the main one being the installation of dual turbocharger with intercooler.
Then in the hands of the buyer was handed the already built Callaway Twin Turbo Corvette. Due to such upgrade the power of the not so weak supercar increased to 100 horsepower and was 345 units, the maximum speed reached 286 km/h. This approach allowed us to deduce the characteristics of a single competitive Corvette line with such “whales” of driving like Ferrari, Porsche and Lamborghini. But General Motors got one huge advantage – the lower price.
Usually people mistake the 1988 Callaway Twin Turbo Corvette by BoostedmaxPSI with the original Sledgehammer from the 1980s. This particular version of the C6 has power of 420 hp and torque of 540 lb-ft. Although it’s only a clone of the original Sledgehammer, it still has its DNA to blow your mind.
