It seems like Volvo has a bad luck all the time when they want to introduce some new innovation or the latest improvement of their vehicles. The new unpleasant introduction which was involving the latest XC60 model passed catastrophically. Somehow the latest cutting-edge safety pedestrian avoidance system went wrong, by running on two “pedestrians”! We don’t want to make a laugh here, thank God the two men are fine, but the system avoided the pedestrians like no one else before.
The officials are blaming the “City Safe” mode, because it was turned off, which by default it is enabled when the SUV is started. Maybe they turned it off to demonstrate that the systems won’t take any action but unfortunately they forgot to turn it on again. This is a huge fail for Volvo and their latest XC60 SUV which is a marvelous ride with base engine of 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder with 8-speed shiftable automatic which delivers 240HP and 258lb-ft of torque.
But, something similar happened in 2010 when they were testing the automatic braking system on the S60 when the car ended in the back of a semi-truck, at least it didn’t involve humans.
Watch the video bellow and see how things went wrong, very bad and scary!
