The weather conditions are so cruel sometimes and they influence so bad on the vehicles. Like this 2000 7.3 Powerstroke engine start-up that is made tough due to the cold weather of minus 23 degrees. Now that is so cold that the person who is taking the video is having trouble also and the engine is having problem with the start-up too.
Starting the Powerstroke is not very hard when the weather is nice, but when the ice hits than you are going to have some difficulties with the Powerstroke start-up. It is so because it is a diesel engine, if it was gasoline there would be no problem with the starting at all, and second is the engine oil that you are using. Here in the video the owner is using 15-40 oil which is good at normal temperature but when it is chilled then the oil becomes thicker and it is hard for the pistons to bring it up. That’s why at the first try the owner keeps starting the engine so that the oil could be moved.
Then at the second try the oil is thinner because of the mixing and the owner puts half pedal of gas for the engine. Now the 7.3 Powerstroke engine had all the conditions to start and it did. It is no wonder that it started in minus 23 degrees, it is a good engine and it will never let you down. Yeah baby you can rely on your beast and expect evil Powerstroke start-up.
You can hear in the video how the engine is working rough because of the cold and there is too much smoke coming from both of the exhaust pipes. The owner should keep the engine running for another five or ten minutes in order to reach the working temperature and it will be safe to drive the truck on the snow, take this as a guide how to start your Powerstroke too.
