How Does A TURBOCHARGER WASTEGATE Work? This Is The KEY COMPONENT To Any Turbocharged Engine!!! WATCH THIS GUY EXPLAIN IT!!!

We are all driving vehicles that are equipped with the turbocharger and it also has the turbocharger wastegate installed on it too. But how it works and what it does exactly? That’s why we are here today to try and to give the best explanation so that it will be much more understandable for you.

First we need to know that every turbocharger is featuring a wastegate inside, doesn’t matter if it is a 40mm turbocharger or the 88mm, they all got it. Now what are they DOING?

The wastegates are really a bypass for the exhaust fumes to pass without spinning the turbo charger turbine any more. This is the best that we can give but we can elaborate a little more on it.

There is an actuator inside the turbocharger that works together with the turbocharger wastegate. When you are pressing on the gas pedal the engine works at higher RPM and thus the PSI builds up from the turbocharger. After it has reached a regulated pressure let’s say about 10psi this is enough for the engine and now it doesn’t need any more. Here the actuator will open the bypass valve and the exhaust fumes will not travel any more through the turbine instead they will go outside directly in the exhaust pipe. This is called regulating the PSI in the engine and if this feature is not here there is a chance that the engine blows up from the PSI build up.

Setting the actuator is the most important thing and this has direct impact on the boost that you are getting from the turbocharger. Setting the actuator at higher PSI will give more boost and better performance.

Seeing the video about how does a turbocharger wastegate work is great way to learn something about the things that we are using every day.
