And we all know way to good that it has been quiet a while since the announcement of the Hellcat, we are all still lacking a final figures about this sexy beast. I’m sure Dodge people have a good reason for it like some hot internal discussion about whether to cap the supercharged V8’s output and if so, where to do it. And the crown of this whole department of Chrysler is the Viper, with its massive V10 engine and astonishing 640 horsepower. From the rumors we can hear, executives at the company are not too crazy about the idea of more affordable engine that will go over the top even with these numbers. The only sure thing that has come out is the statement of the former SRT chief Ralph Gilles who said that Hellcat should be the top of the Viper’s mark because anything over 600 HP would be stupid. (I’m sure that those among you who had driven the last generation of Shelby GT 500 will agree).
And we have got to say that as far as the power goes, Hellcat is our kind of a car. Its 6.2 liter mill is actually a 6.4 liter Hemi, only with reduced stroke for about 0.14 inch, apparently for the good of the future owners, saving them from a lot of trouble and unpleasantness. Therefore, the crankshaft is forged in steel and it is hardened at the surface. Also the pistons are forged and the rods are powder forged and strengthened with bushings and carbon coated pins. The constructors have also fitted aluminum heads and die cast aluminum rocker covers, painted in Hemi Orange, something that will be liked by most of the fans, I’m sure.
