Back in 2014 the American shipyard Palmer Johnson launched probably one of the most anticipated super-yacht in recent years – the 48m SuperSport yacht Series model. The project with a working number 4801 is unique in almost every element of its design.
The super-yacht has an unusual nose with a reverse slope and a pointed bulb, its golden body is literally permeated with elegant lines that run along the entire length towards the stern of two hydrofoils generators. If the bulb is provided for a smoother stroke, the hydrofoils are designed to provide even greater stability of the vessel.
The body, wings and superstructure are based on Brødrene Norwegian shipyard and later transferred to the US for further work on the Palmer Johnson shipyard. The basic material used for the manufacture of the housing is durable and lightweight carbon composite. It certainly adds the yacht great uniqueness as earlier projects of this scale using carbon were not carried out.
The advantages of the light weight and hydrodynamic characteristics of the 48m SuperSport yacht are perfectly complemented by two powerful diesel engines MTU 16V 2000 M94s. With their help, the unique 48-meter ship can reach speeds of 32 knots. Cruising speed is 15 knots.
Another unique feature of the 48 SuperSport yacht is the fuel economy: according to Palmer Johnson, it consumes 50% less fuel than similar models from other shipbuilders category – about 500-600 liters per hour.
The design of the 48 SuperSport yacht enables it to accommodate 12 guests and a crew of 9 people. The owner’s cabin area of about 67 square meters is an impressive part of the main deck. For the entertainment of passengers on board there are salon, cinema, outdoor lounge area in the aft, beach club, as well as a 7-meter tender stored in the garage.
