3. Stiff Springs
In certain cases stiff springs may be a necessary thing, but that does not necessarily make them a better option for all of us. The cars that people use in motorsport tend to have higher spring rates than ordinary cars because of three reasons: first, they’re lower to the ground and because of this they must restrict the body movement; second, aerodynamics are optimized for a specific height of the ride and stiffer springs helps maintain that; and third, usually professional circuits are relatively smooth and flat, which allows for stiff springs to handle small imperfections.
With that said, softer springs will allow you more mechanical grip. Lower rates mean more travel for the springs, and a larger force pressing the tire down because of more travel. Using stiffer springs will help you reduce body roll and allow you to lower the vehicle, but this comes at the expense of grip in bumps, potholes, imperfections, etc.
