ENGINEERING EXPLAINED IS JUST AWESOME: Find Out Which Are The 5 ‘Modifications’ That Will Ruin Your Car’s Performance!!!

5. Drilled Rotors

Drilled rotors do have a purpose, but this is a case when the benefits don’t outweigh the drawbacks. The sharp edges of the drilled holes contribute for stress to rise in the rotor, and as the rotor works at extreme temperatures this can result with a cracked rotor. You wouldn’t want that, would you?

The holes do have their benefit of allowing for brake compound debris, gases, or steam to escape, which on the other hand allows the brake pad to maintain proper contact with the rotor. It is also worth to mention that when you drill the discs, you reduce the amount of surface area available to reject heat.
