What Is Engine Compression Ratio? Helpful, Short And STRAIGHT TO THE POINT Explanation; What It Means And WHY IT IS IMPORTANT!!!

Have you ever thought about the engine compression and the piston compression ratio on your car? Bet you don’t, only the gearheads are going to make and ask these questions as they want to know all about it, but it is worth knowing and here we are. Explaining the engine compression ratio would be a good day’s learning and the man who reads and watches this will become richer for a whole chapter in the mechanics books.

The host from the YouTube channel Engineering Explained is going to explain all of this in detail, explain as well how you can make the engine and the MPG better with boosting the compression ratio.

There are two steps of moving the piston in the engine. Up and down that is. So when the piston is all the way down and it doesn’t have any more space to go down is the lowest point. And when it travels up the cylinder compressing that air and fuel mixture to the highest point allowed from the crankshaft. So what would be the engine compression and the piston compression ratio here? The compression ratio is the volume between the step one in the lowest point and the step two of the piston at the step two being at the highest point in the cylinder. So if there are 8 times the volume in the step one and only one unit at the step two than you are getting the compression ratio of 8:1 in the engine compression.

So why is this compression ratio so much important to us? It plays a huge role in efficiency of the engine, it plays a big role in the diesel engines as the ignition is made out of the compression ratio, and why we need to use premium fuel. These are the points that are covering the engine compression ratio and the piston compression ratio as well.
