What’s New for the 2021 Toyota Tacoma?

New Exterior and Interior

The face of the truck has changed little since it was first released in 2013, but the interior has received a makeover. The dashboard, center console and door panels have been redone in a more luxury-oriented design. The instruments have also been updated with blue backlighting and a prominent tachometer.

The most significant exterior change is the adoption of a new grille design. The current one was renewed for the 2021 model, but this time around it has been given a makeover to better fit the wider range of body styles being offered. The upper portion of the grille now mirrors the lower portion, making it more aerodynamic.


Changes to Improve Comfort and Confidence

The interior gets some updates, with improvements to the seating and storage accommodations, as well as an increase in the number of USB ports. The cupholders have been replaced by a more convenient drinks holders, and the storage space behind the front seats is now easily accessible.

The seating position has been redesigned to improve the driver’s visibility, and the rear seat has been replaced by a Nav System monitor.

The center stack has been updated with additional features to improve the driving experience, including a new infotainment screen, which supports wireless charging and sports Siri, Google, and Amazon Alexa support. There’s also a new, larger 12-inch touchscreen, which is a welcome addition to the dash.


Redesigned Engine and Transmission

The base engine on the 2021 Tacoma is a new 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine, which makes 260 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. This is mated to a new 8-speed automatic transmission, which boasts improved shift times, shift lock, and gearDelete.

Other updates include an upgraded front bumper with more consistent design, additional underbody protection, and improved cooling with a new water-repellent finish.


More Safety and Driver Assist Features

The 2020 Toyota Tacoma receives several safety and driver assist features, including a new dual- camera system, lane-keeping assistance, and Trailering Braking Module. The dual- camera system is one of the more advanced systems available, with 8MP cameras mounted on the front and back of the truck to provide a high-quality image.



The 2021 Toyota Tacoma is essentially a larger and more luxurious version of the 2013 model. The biggest change being the adoption of an updated grille design. Inside, the dashboard, center console, and door panels have been updated to fit the larger vehicle lineup and more luxurious design.
