The Myth Busted: HOW DOES MANUAL TRANSMISSION WORKS And Why It Is Better Than The Automatic!

All engine power is directly transmitted to the layshaft which contains gears which match up with the gears on the output shaft.

Output shaft – the house of the gears, which are on bearings and rotate together with the layshaft. They only rotate together when they are in the same gear, yeah, it will spin with the same gear speed as on the layshaft, of course thanks to the collar.

The gears. They exist in order to give the different speed of spinning on the wheels. The larger the gear, more torque is transmitted on the wheels at low speed, the smaller gear means low torque but high speed!

We hope that we bring you closer the engineering of the manual gearbox. Now let’s see how it works.

When the car is running but not moving, first is depressed the clutch pedal which will allow the parts inside the gear box to move and match the desired gear. That means, when it is pressed it holds the clutch disc between the pressure plate and flywheel. And here, in this position the engine and the transmission are not directly linked.

Next it is chosen the first gear through the gear shift, which engages the selector fork to engage the collar between gears. Next you need to release gently the clutch pedal while you will add pressure simultaneously on the gas pedal. Now the car is moving and the engine is linked with the transmission.

To shift in higher gears you need to repeat the same procedure. Right foot on the gas pedal and left on the clutch pedal, just in high gears the releasing can be faster and also the pressure on the throttle bigger, yeah, you need to sense the engine at that moment.

When you want to stop and park it you need to put the car gearbox in neutral gear, which means you need to press the clutch pedal without adding pressure on the throttle and put the gear shift in centered position. Next you release the clutch pedal without any worries and turn the car off.
