At the same time, MotoRex Inc. began the long, painstaking procedure of Skyline certification for importation purposes. In order to get the NHTSA and DOT’s approval, the company had do tons of paperwork, as well as destroying a several GTY- R vehicles. Even though it was not a pleasant picture, the final result sweet, meaning that Skyline GT – R’s could go legal on the full street level. Soon after, Skyline product arrived at the US docks and Lai became an owner of legal US R33 Nissan Skyline GT-R.
The R 33 had a production life of 3 years, between 1995 and 1998 and by many, Nissan Skyline GT-R chassis was a real technological marvel. Under the hood there was a twin turbocharged inline 6 engine that generated quad digit horsepower numbers. Another important attribute of the R 33 was the ATTESA ETS 4 wheel drive system and Super HICAS 4 wheel steering. But all these goodies didn’t come without a certain cost, which in this case meant extra weight. With its cast iron engine block, snaking turbocharger actuator system and drive system on all 4 wheels, it weighted like a small truck.
But despite of that, by taking lessons from the V-MAX handbook, Lai used all the benefits of the car, squeezing astonishing 709 HP, using 100-octane fuel and an XS Engineering-tuned HKS F-Con V Pro. The Nissan N1 racing engine block was worked up by the Cosworth Engineering with assembly of Carillo connecting rods, HKS rings, forged HKS pistons and ARP rod bolts. The final result is really something.
