It looks really slick, the 2 things I didn’t like were:
    1. You have to wait for the door to open, so that you can open it. Nobody has time for that in this busy world and schedule. People have places to be and people to get in their car so they can enjoy a drink.
    2. The tailgate opening to the side, then a “shelf” comes out so you can then carry long stuff? That’s what the tailgate is used for I thought…?
Other than that, very very nice.

Thanks for sharing your opinion with us Sam. You’re indeed right about the door and the tailgate. Let’s hope that Ford will improve those things in the future. Cheers friend! 🙂

Ford F-250 Super Chief is Ford’s concept from 2006. So far, the concept has not received the green light to start production. The reason is very simple. Ford did not ask for permission, and not planning mass production of the Super Chief. At least not any time soon.

About the sales results of this model is hard to say. The interest is certainly there, but the price of 2016 Ford F-250 Super Chief in the beginning should be higher than the price of hybrid models on the market.

I see an identity crisis in this vehicle. I see a Maybach attempting to be a pickup truck. Where’s the utility? Who in their right mind would take this fancy thing out back to get dirty & do what Pickup trucks were originally created to do? Like tow out a stuck tractor? haul construction equipment, or get fitted with a ladder rack, air compressor & a welder? or fit a snow plow on it? or load it down with bales of hay to head out & feed the animals? This demo looks like a luxury yacht with a pickup bed that’s too fancy to risk carrying your groceries home from wal-mart.

Since the 1980’s, Ford engine block designs have always had problems producing low end Torque, and Ford tries to make up for it with add-on contraptions like turbo-chargers & transmission gearing. I would like to see Torque output specs on this new engine they got. How much can it tow? Can it out tow A Diesel powered Chevy or a Dodge (“Ram”)?

And if you set your engine computer right, (or what most folks do, bypass it altogether) any internal combustion engine with spark plugs will run just fine burning your choice of Gasoline, Ethanol or Hydrogen. so it looks like Ford just incorporated 1970’s experimental technology and legitimized it by making a shiny V-10 & calling this creation a “Tri-Flex engine”.

At first glance, I see lots of luxury car toys slapped on a pickup truck, that doesn’t look real sturdy, and engine tech that Do-It-Yourself engine geeks have been converting regular gasoline engines to do for about 30 years (Google “HHO gas” & you’ll see some of what I mean). I can’t say I’m impressed right away, but I would like to learn if there’s more to this truck than what we saw here.

Gordon you impress me with your knowledge on trucks and vehicles. I am sure the company Ford would find your opinion on this truck very useful. We will see what they will do in the future with the Ford F250 Super Chief.

Too much of a show pony for me, buying a truck that can do the job on a property, i’d be to scared to scratch this thing, the way society is nowadays to wait for a door to open on a vehicle is looking for trouble, this vehicle is ok in a city where it would shine on pretty, but to be a work horse, it would fail.

    1. Mac ( Post author )

I agree with everything that you said Charmaine. This truck is more for city use, not for work.

me and the wife first saw the Super Chief when they brought out the new line of F series with the new body style and they said we can by it in 2008 but it never made it to the dealership the superchief name and just kept on Super Duty for 2008 when you first saw it at Moscone Center San Francisco in the distance to the truth aincome all car shows

8 years later they now want to bring out the Super Chief

Would you buy it now if they put it on sale Jamal?

As mentioned above, the door opens way too slowly. As for towing, with that retractable step in the back there would it even be possible to have a tow kit installed? It seems to me you would have to remove that fancy luxury retractable step. Also, the gears for those types of devices tend to go out fairly quickly from my experience. Why fancy something up with the end result of making it one more thing to maintain when a simple bumper step would also work and you could still have towing capability. By raising the bed about 6″ you could still have that extendable bed (but, again, as previously mentioned you can just lower an old style tailgate). It seems to me that they’re trying to re-invent the wheel with the back end of this thing. Don’t get me wrong, the simple yet sleek metallic look of the truck IS mouthwatering.

As for the interior, I loved the bar/cigar stow area (very slick) and the back seat foot rests are a nice touch. However, those foot rests are going to be problematic. I see people putting their kids in the back (like most people do) and then toys and things getting lodged in the foot rest as it tries to close. This is a luxury truck. It’s not for work, it’s not for country fun, it’s not for families. It’s a rich city kid’s bachelor pad on wheels.

Glad you find it impressive James. Greetings! 🙂

Attaching a bed to a fancy car doesn’t make it a truck. Nobody would haul bricks or a load of dirt in that. I can just see that with a dog box on the back. You would get laughed out of the woods by your fellow hunters. It’s pretty but it ain’t a truck.

    1. Mac ( Post author )

Well at least it would make a nice mall crawler 😀 lol

  7. Mike

This will not be a work truck. Things move too slow on the truck. More like a town car replacement for limo fleets.

Well, at least it will find its purpose 🙂
