The guys at Mazda are developing a new sports coupe, which will be the successor of the Mazda RX-8. The novelty is likely to be named Mazda RX-9. On the surface it would resemble the concept car RX-Vision, shown last year. The use of light alloys will keep the coupe weight at 1300 kg. Like its predecessor, the RX-9 will receive a rotary-piston engine. This will be a new generation of SKYACTIV-R engine with a turbocharged 1.6-liter and an output of about 400 hp. The Mazda RX-9 is planned to be introduced in 2020.
The very same car does not start with implementation before 2020. According to the latest data the production version of the Mazda RX-9 will be presented only in 2019 at the motor show in Tokyo. In this case the manufacturer planned to present the car before, because in 2017 will be held the 50th anniversary of the Cosmo Sport.
The new model will be the successor of the RX-7 and RX-8 series. The vehicle must be a spiritual successor of the Mazda RX8 coupe, the serial assembly of which started back in 2012.
Note! The car is yellow – a visualization of independent designers of the Mazda RX-9 coupe. At the same time the production version of the car is 200 mm shorter than the prototype, and new items will weigh about 1400 kilograms. The concept car was equipped with a rotary engine SKYACTIV-R. The unit must solve three major problems of the prior motor: large oil and fuel consumption, without the high environmental friendliness and low torque in the medium speed range. According to unofficial data, the motor design capacity will be about 450 “horses”. It is assumed that the production car will get a 1.6-liter rotary-piston engine, for which will be used advanced turbo technology. Its design will inherit the signs RX-VISION, which was presented at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2015. Now, however, it says that to this date will be ready only a prototype. The sporty coupe got an aggressive front bumper, front spoiler, vented hood and larger alloy wheels.
