Check out this incredible miniature inline six cylinder engine this man built in his home! This project was completed following the Randall Cox drawings. The miniature engine is a six cylinder four stroke with 1-inch bore and 1.5-inch stroke.
Here is one avid gearhead and skilled engineer who decided it was to improve his machining knowledge and skills. He was in search of a metalworking project and ended with the idea of making a small inline-six engine. However, our hero here isn’t like most regular gearheads – most of the guys would start with something simple and easy. But, not our buddy right here. No sir, he decided to go big time. The engine that he made from scratch was already designed by a man called Randall Cox. The plans for such a miniaturized inline six engine were published in the March 2005 issue of the Model Engine Builder magazine. As for the engine, we are dealing here with an inline six cylinder engine with an air-cooled design.
The interesting part here is that the engine is with a rear open bottom end. We can clearly see the camshaft and crankshaft as they are exposed while the engine is working. As you might be already thinking – this is definitely not an easy task to do. If you take a closer look at the design drawings, you will learn that the maker did not go into much detail at all.
The first thing you need to do here is to figure out everything that you need in order to finish the project. All the components and all the techniques needed. This won’t be something that is going to work every day – a miniature engine like this is going to run only once or maybe twice. It’s for fun and pleasure only.
In the end the miniature inline six cylinder engine could be turned into a conversation piece for your desk.
