This winter has brought us extreme minus zero temperatures, and drivers know best what this means for engines, especially those that run on diesel fuel. For sure, one of the most challenging situation a driver can come across during the winter is the one that includes cold start diesel engine. It is always said that a cold start is the greatest enemy of an engine.
Bad treatment of the engine by the driver during heating makes a negative impact on the state and engine life. Therefore it is very important to follow the procedure which will quickly lead the elements of the engine to an operating temperature, thereby leaving minimal consequences on the state of their surface. If you are curious to find out how to perform a cold start of a diesel engine during a cold, frosty morning we recommend you take a look at the following article.
In contrast to the established understanding, a cold start is not a starting of the engine at low temperatures. The term cold start means to start and run the engine at a time when its parts and working fluids are not at the designed operating temperature, that is, when they have the ambient temperature. Therefore, there is a cold start and it occurs in summer too, and not only during the winter. In fact, a cold start is similar to the elaboration of the engine, only that the required period is measured in minutes, not hundreds of kilometers.
Today you will see a great video compilation featuring several recordings in which with not too many words is clearly displayed the cold start diesel engine. Starting the diesel engines found under the hood of different cars in harsh winter conditions at extremely low temperatures between -30 and -40 degrees Celsius is something that doesn’t happen to us all. It is quite impressive to see the skills and patience of these drivers while they warm up their vehicles and put all their efforts to start the engines.
Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Toyota, Lada and Hyundai play the main roles, and some of them really did not allow to be diminished.
Finally, at the 7:20 interval of this video, you will be able to see how vehicles of the heavy class manage to do a cold start diesel engine. Bear in mind that these are some of the coldest regions of the world!
