One person was killed and at least five people were seriously injured when a terrible overpass collapse occurred in the north of Milan on the Milan – Lecco highway. Namely, the overpass collapsed under the weight of a truck which had more load than the allowed limit. The accident happened only hours after the Italian Travel Service said it demanded the immediate closure of this road, reported the Italian news agency ANSA.

On the footage made by an Italian television is seen the overpass divided into two parts while firefighters tried under bright lighting to determine whether there are casualties. On one of the photos is seen a red car under the truck, reports AP.

The road service of Italy states that requested closure of the overpass after the day began to fall sections of concrete, but local authorities have requested an official order before they begin to operate.

At least 10 people were injured in the unwanted incident in northern Italy, when the overpass collapsed in the moment after a truck was passing. Part of the road structure fell on a car that was located under the overpass. The movement in the area of ​​the incident was blocked. Teams of police and emergency assistance were sent on the site. All the injured people were taken to hospital. An additional team of medics was flying to the scene from Milan by helicopter. The reasons for the incident are still being investigated.

The police said the truck was carrying steel coils and was registered to a greater burden. There were four cars involved in the collapse of the structure. The incident would have also involved a motorcyclist. Four injured in code yellow, including three children, were brought to the hospital in Lecco. The 50 year-old driver of the truck, which would have caused the collapse, is hospitalized with chest trauma in code yellow, in Lecco. The victim’s name was Claudio Bertini and lived in Civate in Lecco. He was aboard one of the cars that remained crushed by the truck.
