Building an entire working geared piece of machinery with the LEGOs can be challenging, but not for this guy. He saw some other interesting projects made out of LEGOs and he decided to make his own, better and bigger one.
This sculpture includes moving parts that are perfectly working, look perfectly, and it is genius. The sculpture, called the Sisyphus Kinetic Sculpture built by JK Brickworks, is made using the mechanical links and gears, with the LEGO parts. There has been a boulder added and the motion to it has been extended as well. In the video there are details and mechanics being discussed, where you can learn how it works and if you want, how to make one for you.
For those who want to build a working sculpture like this, there is one thing to note. It depends on the relative orientation of the two crank shafts when they are connected to the chain and the motion of the legs with the body/boulder may not be synchronized. Actually it is very easy to achieve this – just slide the 12 tooth double bevel gear to disengage the leg crank shaft and then orient the two crank shafts as they are depicted in the instructions, after that just reengage the whole gear. Good Luck.
