THE TRUTH IS CLEAR: Stock 1970 Dodge Charger Vs. Tuned V-TEC Honda Civic…

We were waiting for this race to happen to us, honestly! We were waiting to see the small engines against the displacement monsters which are ready to suck those tiny beasts and show them who the boss is.

That’s why we bring you this race between a stock 1970 Dodge Charger and tuned V-TEC Honda Civic.

Imagine you are on a ride with your best friend Mopar and suddenly a small Japanese guy challenges you on a race to death. Will you think for a second or you will accept the challenge immediately?

We won’t think even besides the fact that the Japanese cars can survive some hard tunes and be even mightier than ever, but we believe in the Mopar’s raw power. Yeah those 8 cylinders can roll badly and deliver a huge torque power on the rear axle, plus the sound of the engine is unbelievable and the outcome is amazing.

Just watch them on the short sprint race, maybe the Civic is light weight and has some instant launch techniques but when a Mopar is angry and hungry for one no one can stop him. Play the video and enjoy it!

So you need 7 – 10 litre v8 to beat 1,6 litre r4 anf you’re proud of your car :'( Muscle cars are history.

    1. Mac ( Post author )

Oh I’m not so sure about muscle cars being a history Tommi. They still have juice in their muscles my friend 😉

  2. Adri

Ofcourse a 2.2 Vtec cant win against such an V8, but please mind that the charger probably got twice as much hp, twice as much fuel consumption and 3-4 times ccm. So actually the Civic did pretty good against this monster. He would probably killing it if he had a turbo. Just sayin

    1. Mac ( Post author )

I would love to see a rematch Adri. How about you?

  3. Franny

for one the cars double the weight so extra four cylinders sound pre good

    1. Mac ( Post author )

Glad you like it Franny. Hope you enjoyed the video!

  4. ZX spectrum

So this is nota a race, Honda go as usual-cool fancy, and it’s not tunned Honda…Savage Dodge is tuned, and like a fun, police starts Savig from corner and send to hospital-as usual for mad dive

    1. Mac ( Post author )

Well that’s what the description of the video on YouTube says about the Honda ZX. I know what you mean, police always ruins the fun 🙂

  5. Dk shadow

Wow. Good race . That vtec isent tuned thoe .. if it was tuned ull hear the vtec kick in after 1st gear .. i have a 95 accord with a f22 with turbo n ive come real close to beatting a gtr r35

    1. Mac ( Post author )

Glad you enjoyed watching the race my friend 😉

    2. idk

I doubt that, unless that GT-R R35 was a horrible driver.

      1. Mac ( Post author )

Well Dk Shadow, that needs to be seen. I bet that would be one hell of a race 😉

  6. stevo

So eeeh, what part of that civic was tuned? All i saw was a shiney engine bay and a air filter…
    Wouldn’t exactly call it a race either…
So it’s a possibly tuned mopar vs a (not in the slightest tuned) civic…

    Waste of a video

    1. Mac ( Post author )

Well you can’t please them all Stevo. Check other articles on our site and I’m sure you’ll find a lot to please your soul 😉

  7. E

It has 4 extra pistons’ more displacement, and more cubic inches. The Honda has half as much pistons and quite a lot less displacement so its actually very impressive for that Honda doing what it did with just a tune like that so you can’t really hate on the Honda.

    1. Mac ( Post author )

Nah we don’t hate the Honda my friend. Of course, the Civic is a nice car. It’s all the excitement and adrenaline that got us turned on 😀 lol

  8. Bennyk

I’d run my 04 g35 on that charger and smash him and all I got done to my g35 is a intake.

    1. Mac ( Post author )

Now that would surely be a great race Bennyk. I like your idea a lot!

  9. monoxide

dude in the civic was cocky but muscle doesnt always beat import

    1. Mac ( Post author )

Well the fight between muscles and imports will last for a long time. We will surely see more of this battle. 😉

  10. Bill

american classic muscle, against a little, heavily tuned rice rocket, i will admit i knew the dodge was going to win but i expected the honda to put up a better fight

    1. Mac ( Post author )

Maybe this is just the beginning Bill. I would love to see a rematch. How about you?

  11. Ahmad Shumayal

A Tesla Model S P85D would obliterate this without directly using even a single drop of gasoline.

    1. Mac ( Post author )

Oh I would love to see a race with them Ahmad! That would surely be a great show.

    2. Rat Patrol

And a Tesla costs 3x the price if even a 440 Charger…………what a STUPID remark.

  12. Sly

My 13 Wrx would easily beat that hemi.

    1. Mac ( Post author )

Another USA vs. Japan battle 🙂 Nice! I would love to see that show.

    2. Rat Patrol

What makes you think it was a 426 Hemi?

Considering a HEMI Charger would cost about 1/2 million $ in todays market…..its not likely.

Most Mopar motors were wedge heads…and the Charger could be bought with a 318,340,360 small block or a 383 or 440 big block wedge.

Pretty embarrasing fir the Honda if it was a 318 optioned car!

  13. Zeus

    Common man a V8 Monster vs. a B16 or B20?
The Civic must be proud bout this gage.

    1. Mac ( Post author )

Yeah, the driver sure had a lot of guts to race the mighty Dodge Charger.

  14. Rat Patrol

I say good on them for having the nuts to have a run. Kudos to the zcivic guy for having a go, kudos to the Charger guy for risking a valuable piece of history

In stock form…with the best motor available for each model….the Civic would be 1.5 se s slower over the qtr.

13.5 sec 426 Hemi vs 15 sec factory V Tec

Thats about 10 car lengths .

Dont forget peoples…..ya run what ya brung.

    1. Mac ( Post author )

Thanks a lot for all your great comments Rat Patrol. I’m glad you enjoyed watching this race.

  15. IBoost

That was pathetic that was a h22 swap in a civic. With a dumb DC sports Ceramic header. That h22 maybe makes 160hp and 150trq what a stupid joke.

I would rather see a k24 or k20 swapped civic with intake exhaust header and tuned kpro vs that mopar. Results would have been opposite.

  16. R

Combine that small H22A VTEC with a turbo and try again!

    1. Mac ( Post author )

Excellent idea! Then we would see a great race.

  17. TooMuchFun

So 45 yr old technology beat modern tuned four cylinder. What has the last decade of automotive improvements brought us.

    1. Mac ( Post author )

Well, we are dealing with the legendary American muscle beast – Dodge Charger. That says a lot.

    1. Mac ( Post author )

Awesome video. Thanks a lot for the link!

  18. Derri

OK let’s be real this is actually I pretty fair race yes the Dodge has more power but the Honda was about 1/3 of the charger also traction at the HP level would go to the. Honda I think if the Honda had a better driver it might make it a better race both cars had there advantage’s and disadvantages

    1. Mac ( Post author )

Well said Derri. Glad you enjoyed the race.

  19. seriously

its a charger even with a 440 in it their overweight and underpowered and let’s be honest he didn’t launch that charger at all cause mopars can’t get the power to the road without blowing apart a rear end or the transmission

    1. Mac ( Post author )

I think Mopar fans would have a different thing to say about that haha 🙂

  20. haha

Of course the Honda boys are butthurt. Always got an excuse for losing huh?

    1. Mac ( Post author )

Haha give them a break buddy 😉

  21. SleeperCar

Old muscle and new muscle will always be the best… especially in the long track or drag.

Street racing though… that Honda should have taken that charger in the short. He’s obviously not tuned (or poorly tuned) and probably not the best driver behind the stick.

I’ve seen a lot of k-22 honda motors (no nitrous) beat muscle cars all the time in a short track. A good. Turbo, exhuast, pullies, cold air, proper dyno tuning, good rubber and you will win against most stock muscle cars. Mostly because you have half the weight and about 2/3 the same power.

    1. Mac ( Post author )

Very interesting. Thanks for sharing that with us.

  22. eric

Wow american muscle vs japan tech…
Cant wait to see another race… another circuit too
    ????

    1. Mac ( Post author )

That’s why we are here for. 🙂

  23. Rob W

How about the same race with some corners thrown in?

    1. Mac ( Post author )

That would be a great idea Rob!

  24. Harley

I’ll go get my Stock 2017 all wheel drive 4 cyl. 380+ HP.
Ford Focus with the factory tune and destroy the Honda all over again.

    1. Mac ( Post author )

Damn right you would Harley! 😀
