Backfire doesn’t mean that the engine is going to spit fire through the exhaust pipe, this is called after fire. People that are gathering in the streets with their race car mods and engines are always talking about the spitting fire of the Lambo that they have seen and how their car can do it too and they are referring to a whole another process on the engine. Backfiring has a totally different meaning than the after fire seen through the exhaust and the host is going to tell us all about it, so that we are not getting mixed up the next time that we talk about it.
The backfire means that the explosion is going on out of the combustion chamber of the cylinder, either the fire will go out of the air intake as we have seen a Chevy do that, or from the exhaust again. But technically if it goes through the exhaust and pops the muffler too, it is called an after fire. It is harder to distinguish those two terms when the fire comes from the back, but either way it looks too cool when it is coming from your modded car.
When the backfire occurs, we will have the detonation taking place in the intake manifold and then travel through the intake system, it will be shown on the table that the host of the video has. Well it is not good to have backfire in your engine as it means that there is something going on that it shouldn’t be. The detonations or the explosions should be a controlled process that will take place in the cylinder designated area, NOT out of it. So if you are getting these detonations in the intake manifold you better watch this video as you will know what is wrong and how to solve it too.
