THE BATTLE OF THE HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONS: 2015 Ford F350 vs. 2013 Ram 3500 vs. 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 3500!

What can be additionally said here to introduce you to the main event when the title says everything! We can only add that the battle was scary for watching, huge heavy-lifters sweating out there to the last drop of sweat to show who’s the best and take the throne!

Let’s see what these beasts have! First we’ll start from the 2015 Ford F350 powered by Powerstroke 6.7-liter V8 turbocharged diesel engine which delivers 440hp and 860lb-ft of torque with 31,200 lb towing capacity! On the other side we have another beast waiting to show what he has got, 2013 Dodge Ram 3500 powered by the mighty Cummins 6.7-liter I6 style turbocharged diesel engine which produces 385hp and 865lb-ft of torque and amazing 30,000 lb towing capacity. The location of this race is Davis Dam in Arizona.

But let’s not forget the last and maybe the mightiest beast, 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 powered by the legendary Duramax 6.6-liter V8 with Alison transmission which delivers 400hp and 765lb-ft of torque and has 23,200 lb towing capacity!

The battlefield of the second race is Loveland Pass in Colorado, where they need to tow huge weight of 10,000 ft. So if you want to find out more about the battle and the weights and the shown performances you need to watch the video bellow!

That’s great, I’m a huge Ford fan. However the challenging trucks were not 2015, they were older. Why not have an even race, same year. Then it would be a lot more interesting

You’re right Chris. We made the necessary corrections in the article. Thanks for the notice.

How about you put the same gear ratio in all the trucks then see how they do.

    1. Mac ( Post author )

Yeah I know what you mean Nathan: different gear ratios. But I think they’re trying to show which overall performs the best with what can be currently purchased on the market.

Ok 4:30 gears vs 4:10 gears put 4:30 in the ram and see whats happens.

    1. Mac ( Post author )

Still, the Ford in this video is competing with the best of what the other two brands currently have to offer Scott. So, it’s not their fault the other two won’t get with the program and at least offer a similar axle ratio, or update their diesel engine output numbers.

      1. scott

You can’t win with the Dodge and Chevy boys its never fair unless they win and if their trucks had the 4:30s and the Ford had the 4:10s and theirs won they’d be laughing saying how much junk Ford was and theirs is so much better , you just can’t cure stupid lol

Hahaha yeah that’s not something new. It happens all the time 🙂

Too bad I made the mistake of buying the 6.0 Powerstroke. Repairs almost broke me and moved me away from Ford completely because of their refusal to stand behind the mistake.

    1. Mac ( Post author )

That’s awful Michael. How unprofessional of them 🙁

I can’t remember the last time I had to race another truck to the top of a hill pulling a load. That definitely was not part of my consideration when I bought my cummins. But good for you Ford. They could have picked a gears that all three manufacturers offered. At least level the playing field. I guess Ford needs all the help they can get

    1. Mac ( Post author )

I guess they are prepared to do everything to win 🙂

The trucks had different gear ratios! Of course the Ford with a 3.30 is going to beat them both at a 4 mile uphill test (compared to a 3.73 and a
4.10). Pull over 500 miles of mixed highway and compare fuel milage, times, and comfort.

The reason they didn’t put new models in aginst the Ford it wouldn’t win so they found older models they just surpassed two years later to go aginst

It would be really great to see a comparison with the latest models of each truck.

What is the real world fuel mileage of the 2015 6.7L Power Stroke? I would gladly give up the time on a incline pull for an extra 5-10 mpg overall.

  9. Gus

Seeing that the axle ratios vary from the different models, how does the Ford compare to its competitors in fuel consumption. In other words do the 4.30 gears ,although great for towing, sacrifice overall fuel economy of the Ford?

  10. Sean Krebs

Gear ratio, engine output, DOESN’T MATTER! What I want to see is the fuel consumed to produce such power. I’m a tractor/truck pulling guy and a fuel-power ratio would help me. I currently own a Ford tractor with 456 cubes and can turn 1/2 gallon of diesel into 1,000 horsepower in 300 feet. I drive Chevy because in my theory, it is the best of both. Comparable power but uses less fuel, at least when we compared 2005 to 2005 to 2005. I’m studying engineering in college and my goal is to create a “super truck” with an Allison Transmission powered by a 6.7 Cummins on a Ford Flex frame. Anyone on board?

    1. steve

The moment you can get a Chevy or dodge owner to be okay with having anything to do with ford is the day world hunger is gone along with cancer. I drive a ford. I love my truck. I don’t make a pissing contest out of it though. Reading these comments people are leaving about being pro one single brand is just ignorance. But being realistic, if you made that, you’d have to much money to be on a forum and Scarlett Johansson would be carrying your child. Best of luck man.

Isn’t it a little bit odd that the ford got the exact same time in each of the two races at both the desert and the mountain? Not even a millisecond off.

  12. Bill Beveridge

I Always thought that trucks should be similarly equipped and model year. 4:10 on Ford vs 3:73 on GM. GM doesn’t offer a 4:10 but Ford does offer a comparable 3:73. 2015 vs 2015 might be a better comparison. I would bet the Duramax with Allison would run cooler and close to double the mileage of the Ford and Dodge. Not sure what this proved.

  13. Spencer

Ford makes a hoss of a trucks that’s for sure! But I will stick with the ram cause cummins has the regen down on the 6.7 liter. I work in the oil field and our company trucks are new fords with the 6.7 scorpion diesel (powerstroke) and they pull and run great but unfortunately they are JUNK! Always breaking down either exhaust sensor or some other stupid stuff that won’t let it regen so u go to derate mode and there u are and after a little while in derate the truck just shuts down so no thank you I will stick with dodge and chevy.

    1. Mac ( Post author )

Well, I’m sure the Ford company could use your experience to improve their trucks Spencer.
