The Gama Goat is a semi-amphibious all-terrain vehicle on six wheels, originally developed for use by the Army of the United States in the Vietnam War.
The Gama Goat uses an articulated chassis, so that from a distance it looks like a car driving on aall four wheels is pulling a two-wheeled trailer, but actually it’s only a six-wheeled vehicle with a steering arrangement on all four wheels, with the front and rear wheels rotating in opposite directions. This vehicle was famous for its ability to pass through exceptionally rough and muddy terrains.
The catchy nickname of the vehicle came from two sources: “Gama”, the name of the inventor of its articulation with power supply, Roger Gamount and “goat”, for its ability to travel on unreachable terrains as a mountain goat. Its military designation was M561, 6 × 6 tactical truck 1-1 / 4 – t. There was also an ambulance version known as the M792, which could take up to four berths..
