1970 Oldsmobile 442 W-30
The year of 1970 was the pinnacle of Oldsmobile’s performance. That same year, GM dropped the cap on engine size in order to keep up in the American muscle car battle. Oldsmobile, on the other hand, responded this by assigning the Olds 455 V8 as the standard 4-4-2 engine. Its output was 365 horsepower and 500 lb·ft of torque, with a 370 hp engine offered for the W30 model. With the tweaked body style and improved performance, the 4-4-2 earned pace car duties at the Indianapolis 500 race in 1970. Fans that wanted to experience the ultimate in performance could ask for the W-30 package which was called the “W-Machine”. This model also had a fiberglass hood with functional air scoops, cylinder heads, aluminum intake manifold, special camshaft, distributor and carburetor.
