We admit that this resident of Chicago – Rich Weissensel – has impressed us completely with his unique hobby. His collection of customized DeLorean cars (vehicles) which you can see in the video, is just breathtaking. Weissensel is a 50-year-old software engineer who obviously has a great passion for this particular car. In his collection he has five customized DeLoreans, including not only the standard model with its gull-wing doors and a body made of fiberglass, but also some greatly modified variants: a monster truck DMC-12, 6-door limousine, a cabriolet version, and even a hovercraft.
This unusual project started after Rich met John DeLorean at the DeLorean Car Show in Cleveland, back in 2000 and shared his passion and ideas and sketches for customizing the car. John DeLorean at first thought Rich was crazy, but still encouraged him to follow his dream. It took him 14 years and an ongoing series of projects to finally make his dream come true.
