Toyota’s VVT-i
The system developed by Toyota is based on the use of gears for changing the relationship between the chain and the camshaft. A smaller gear leads to several degrees rotation of the shaft due to this delay in the connection between the teeth and the rotation circuit.
In this format the internal gear in the chamber affects the phase angle of the camshaft, by changing the time for which the lobes interact with the rocker arms. This technology was first introduced in the 2JZ-GE engine with 3 liters displacement installed in the famous Toyota Supra A80.
