Thanks to this frame, the machine withstood many attacks from all sides and dashing jumps by “Toby”. In addition to the frame, Halicki was defended by the heavy duty sporting belts fromthe company Simpson, which squeezed the body of Halickieach time with every next blow of the police “oil lamp”. It is the “cell” and belts which saved “Toby” when on the highway, he lost control and at a speed of 160 km/h crashed into a post. It was an impromptu, unscheduled spectacular moment that almost ditched the “king of car crashes.” Halicki was injured in the incident, but he had to heal the wounds later. For two hours the group was driving at the scene, in order for “Eleanor” to be back again in the ranks and “Toby” despite the pain and the resulting injuries, continued its forty-minute chase. And there was not far away the final too.
As in the modern remake, in the finals of the 1974 film there was a spectacular jump. The health of Nicolas Cage was not threatened when he was jumping with the Shelby Mustang GT500, as the actor watched from the side to see how the machine was set in motion in the sky. But H.B. Halicki , who, along with the “Eleanor” performed all the stunts himself, jumped to 9 meters above the ground, flying 40 meters in the air and landed it on the stern on the road surface, suffered displacement of the spine. The injury was not fatal, but the risk was still great. “Art requires sacrifice” – thought so the great “destroyer” HB “Toby” Halicki.
