1938 Delahaye 165 Cabriolet
The Delahaye 165 was a luxury passenger car produced from 1938 to 1939 by the French car manufacturer Delahaye. Presented at the Paris Motor Show of 1938, the 165 was a luxury roadster created to offer something really special and exclusive: the car that came before the public was a superb execution of the Figoni et Falaschi body, with flamboyant style, in drop of water, according to an exuberant style in vogue during the second half of the thirties. A triumph of sinuous curves, cowlings and chrome accents.
Another major peculiarity was under the hood, where a powerful throbbing from the 4496 cc V12 was derived directly from the Type 145, the highly successful racing single-seater. On the 165 this engine was suitable for road use and was thus considerably weakened, going from 238 to 175 hp at 4500 rev / min. However, the grit remained and gave the 165 a brilliant character.
The original plan was to build 12 copies, but in the end only 5 were made. Today you can meet a Delahaye 165 only once in a lifetime, if you are lucky.
