Here is the 4th tale: Extra quality kingpin
Ford wanted to introduce his cars as the most affordable and reliable to the customers. He wanted to stand out from the competition. And it’s true, the Model T lasted longer. But he was concerned with different things. Once he even sent his engineers to study the Model T in the junkyards. They noticed that the condition is the same as the competitors but only one part seemed like untouched, the kingpin. Henry Ford immediately ordered the next generation of kingpins to be with lower quality, not to outstand the rest of the car. Yeah, it’s obvious; he didn’t want to produce quality cars for affordable price lasting longer than competitor’s cars, he just wanted to save extra pennies.
As a smart businessman we accept this way of thinking to cut the expenses (only in this particular condition, the kingpin to last as the whole car) but he was more concerned about saving extra pennies. Sorry Mr. Ford this myth is also busted.
