About a year ago the Fiat Chrysler Group announced their 5-year development plan. This plan includes the announcement of the new versions of Wrangler and Grand Cherokee in 2017 and many improvements of the models.
As the CEO of the company Sergio Marchionne says, there were a lot of rumors about the new Wrangler and his reduced fuel consumption. But as he claims they changed their plans and they will stick to the steel body and only keep some aluminum components like the doors, hood and tailgate. The reason for this is because they tried a lot of simulated versions with all-aluminum body but they are convinced that they can come as same closer with the steel body of the Wrangler without compromising the vehicle’s spirit.
Also he said the planned announcement for the new Grand Cherokee in 2017 might be delayed in 2018. The reason for this delay is the possible jointed development with the new Grand Wagoneer which will feature an updated version of the current Grand Cherokee platform with completely new architecture. As Marchionne says “The delay is possible because of the joining of these two programs in something that makes sense and needs to happen”!
The new Wagoneer will attack the luxury SUVs at $100K price with high end version.
