The popularity of the Porsche Boxster has a stable growth in recent years. With the introduction of the new generation Boxster, called 981, it seems that more people are convinced of the fact that a Boxster is absolutely not inferior to a 911. It is the better layout of the Boxster with the engine in the middle of the car, ie before the rear axle, a good argument for preferring the Boxster over the iconic Porsche 911.
While purists will often label the Boxster as the ‘Poor man’s Porsche’, a new Porsche Boxster is not for John Doe. There are however, used copies of the first generation Boxster, the 986, which are abundant for prices starting at around 6 to 7 thousand. For this money, you have a right-hand drive vehicle with a Tiptronic gearbox and some damage. Certainly not the best performance.
Do it yourself!
That the purchase of a used Porsche Boxster is even cheaper, prove the lords of the British TV show Wheeler Dealers. In this episode dealer Mike Brewer and the skillful mechanic Edd China buy a tired Boxster for a trifle in order to restore it to its former glory.
Mike Brewers purchased a moldy Porsche Boxster S with seized brakes and a lot of other faults, but at the silly price of just £1,000, he simply could not resist the temptation. Will his mechanics buddy Edd China be able to fix it up enough to turn a profit of this German baby?
The plan is to then sell the car in order to achieve a nice profit. Have they won the jackpot or the Boxster appears to be a small financial disaster? In any case, what Mike and Edd did here is that with a little sense of trading, technical knowledge and perhaps a bit of luck they managed to build one Porsche Boxster which is very beneficial to drive.
Put a nice cup of English tea with biscuits and enjoy 40 minutes of television without advertising!
