1987 Buick Grand National GNX
The 1987 Buick GNX “Grand National Experimental” was released as a limited edition. Buick built 547 cars with the Grand National interior trim option. These cars were sent to McLaren Performance Technologies where they were upgraded to the Buick GNX. Changes in them included a reprogrammed Turbo Hydramatic 200-4R transmission, Garrett T-3 turbocharger, a GNX specific E-EPROM, unique differential cover/panhard bar and a low-restriction exhaust with dual mufflers. The 1987 Buick Grand National GNX became one of the few truly collectible cars in its days. It also got the title “Darth Vader’s Car” because of the all-black stealthy appearance along with the front grille which resembled the mouthpiece of Darth Vader’s helmet.
