Therefore it is not surprise that so many times, muscle cars have been the main protagonists or the best sidekicks of the main characters. The thrill that we get when we are watching this motion pictures is unique experience, full of pleasure that gets under the skin even to the people who are not that keen and affectionate about the fast and good looking cars.
And knowing that our readers are big aficionados for muscle cars, we decided to make a list with the best films with muscle cars we have seen on the big screen. Therefore, some very fine and sharp looking candidates are not here on our list, because they were from the TV shows and series, or were not from the category of muscle cars. But the range of muscle cars that appeared in movies is not narrow, but pretty wide, so we were forced to exclude some of them from the list, therefore we will only mention them now: 1977 Pontiac Trans Am from “Smokey and the Bandit”, 1969 Dodge “01? Charger from “The Dukes of Hazzard”, 1970-1971 Plymouth Barracuda from “Nash Bridge”. These and I’m sure many other are also someone’s dream car, but have failed to get on our list, because this is the choice for our best 10 muscle cars from the films.
1). 1968 Ford Mustang GT 390 from “Bullitt”, 1968
If you like street car chasing, tire smoking, engine duels, than “Bullitt” from 1968 is the mother of them all. It is a film that set the standards for the next muscle car movies that will follow, especially those in which the main car chase action is happening on the streets of San Francisco. And the car is a story for itself. Maybe the only Ford Mustang so far that has not been modified. Under the hood of this sexy beast there is a roary and aggressive 6.4 liter V8 engine that produces 325 horsepower, with a 4 speed manual transmission and a rear wheels drive that makes it look sportier than ever. Frankly I am disappointed in this list. There was no mention of the yellow 73 Mustang from the original “Gone in 60 Seconds”.
What about the yellow 1969 Dodge Charger from Crazy Larry / Dirty Mary? Or the Camaro from Aloha Bobby and Rose? Sheese and you put in the Aston Martin from James Bond? “Come out of it, for crying out loud”.
The car from “Gone In 60 Seconds” 2000 is a very nice car, but the movie is full of CGI F/X’s. The original version of the movie from 1974 has a Mustang Mach 1 Fastback, again, a very nice car. This version doesn’t have great actors like Nicolas Cage, in fact the cast is a complete bunch of no-names filmed on a shoe string budget. The Directing isn’t that great either. What it does have is GREAT car chases, the main one being the climax of the movie lasting around 40 minutes! Also all the stunts are just that, stunts. No CGI, just the ability of the cars and the skill of the drivers. The acting isn’t to painful to watch, but the car chases are great. Give it a go.
Come on, Aston Martin is not a muscle car, not even us car.
