It is old more than half century or exactly 63 years but this 1953 Jeep Willys CJ3B is in perfect running mode, a family heritage, transferred from father to son. This Jeep is more than a car, it’s a history, and it’s a nostalgia for a passed time which will never be returned.
Today’s owner inherited this Willys Jeep CJ3B from his father who was passionate about his 4×4 car. When we are here at 4×4, it’s worth the fact to mention that in 1946 the Willys Jeep was the first commercially produced car with all-wheel drive. It was the pride of the American nation like the Land Rover was for the British people.
Larry Shank, the owner describes how the love for this ride was born. It all begun from his father passion for the CJ3B and his weekly escape in the nature from his daily job as a jet engineer. As boy his father thought him the fundamentals of the Willys Jeep, how he needs to drive it and how to listen the engine sound. This Willys has survived dozen of custom modification like engine swap with V8 in 1955. The same year was installed the steering light on the front and swamp air filter for river crossing to allow the Jeep’s engine to breath freely and deliver Larry’s father wherever he wanted to go.
In the early 60s also the rear part of the body is extended and as Larry says it’s not about the overall look of the Willys CJ-3B, it’s more the story behind, the passed days with him and the spent moments.
It’s also worth to mention the tear drop trailer which is dating from 1947, a Ken-Skill Kustom Kamper model 10, which hasn’t survived major modifications, just body paint and regular maintenance through the years.
