7). 1968 Chevrolet Corvette 427 cubic V6 435 HP

Muscle Cars 7

This model of the legendary all American muscle car Corvette is very rare. There are only 624 units that came out of the assembly line with this kind of engine, the L 89, 427 cubic V8 that produces 435 horsepower. The 1968 Chevrolet Corvette 427 cubic V6 435 HP is part of the third Corvette generation which was unveiled for the first time in 1968. The L 89 is a one of the ’children‘ of Zora Arkus Duntov, pretty much identical with the L 72 model, only with a 3 units of the 3 barrel carburetors (which later became known as Tri Power ).

It had many components that were carried over from the C2 model, but Larry Shinoda made sure that it had new looks, as well as the completely redesigned interior. Under the hood there was the new, all aluminum made, special big block ZL 1 engine that officially produced 435 HP (320 kW), but the reports were saying that the independent test have shown even more incredible results of 560 HP (420 kW) and it was able to catapult the car in just a little over 10 seconds throughout a quarter mile. It is remaining as one of the very best Corvettes that ever appeared on the roads, a wet dream to many muscle car collectors all over the world.

The list is a bit one-sided. 6 GM products, 3 Chrysler’s, and 1 Ford. The 6 GM are 3 Corvettes; 2 Chevy’s; and 1 Buick. The 3 Chrysler’s are all Plymouths. And the lonely Ford wasn’t a viable option to the public at the time unless you had the cash for it. Same thing for the Corvettes; those were not easy to obtain for the everyman. The Plymouths were a readily accessible as was the Camaro, Chevelle, and Buick.
