This is the second generation Barracuda that was in production from 1967 to 1969. In this short amount of time Plymouth has made a really good set of improvements since the first of its second generation of ‘Cuda.
Originally carrying a 273 ci in (4.5L) LA V8 engine with speed up to 300 bhp (220kW) and a 14inch wheels, this rare old timer muscle car is breathtaking as it is. I mean for its day and age, with the performance that it’s showing, it’s definitely something rare.
But this 1967 Plymouth Barracuda Formula S that we see has been improved by its owner Bob Gough. Gough grew up idolizing and loving the European sports cars since his family moved to France when he was thirteen years-old. Gough always looked down on the American muscle cars such as Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro, Pontiac GTO, Plymouth and so on, saying that they generally go straight, very fast and couldn’t stop or couldn’t steer.
When he was 19 years old he was introduced to the Plymouth Barracuda. At the beginning he just looked at the shape and the exterior and he thought it was poor looking, but once he found out about the Formula S Barracuda all the hate about the American muscle cars was gone. In his opinion, this Formula S optional package that the Plymouth Barracuda was offering made all that bad handling characteristic go away. And now he is the owner of 67 ‘Cuda for more than two decades and he has made some minor improvements to it. First of all he replaced the transmission with a Tremec 5-speed which now it’s running a 340 cubic inch V8 engine that he replaced with the original 273 ci. Also, Dough upgraded the suspension and brakes, which allow him to keep up with European sports cars. Dough’s suspension upgrades include a replacement of the original shocks with nitrogen shocks that vastly improve the handling. And finally he changed the original 14 inch wheels with a 15 inch wheel, so he gets better handling on the roads while he’s driving.
Many of other super sports car owners asked what he has done with his ‘Cuda since he is leaving half of them behind on the track when they are racing. They just can’t believe that he is beating some of the Europe top sports cars with his ‘Cuda. The interior of this car has the classic old timer look with the original dashboard and brown leather hand stitched seats. Since it’s just a two-door car many of you would think that there is a not a lot of space inside, but you would be suprised. Not just that there is space inside for 5 people to sit comfortably there is even space to sleep in this ‘Cuda, once you pull down the back seats. Also the steering wheel and the gear shifter are old looking that matches the rest of the interior.
So don’t let your judgment underestimate something, you never know when you will find something that will surprise you.
