The 1969 Camaro ZL1 was the high-performance model produced for the public in limited quantities. Retail sales allowed the car to qualify for the drag racing National Hot Rod Association. The ZL1 was expensive and limited to only one model for each Chevrolet dealership.
The 1969 Camaro ZL1 427 (6997.3 cubic cm) with 430 horsepower is able to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (0 to 96.56 km/h) in 5.3 seconds and ran the quarter mile in 13.16 seconds at 110 mph (177.02 km/h). This performance easily exceeded the standard Camaro 396 (6489.3 cubic cm) of 375 horsepower accelerating from 0 to 60 mph (0 to 96.56 km/h) in 6.8 seconds which ran the quarter mile in 14, 7 seconds 98.7 mph (158.84 km/h).
To satisfy our need and passion for the glorious Camaro, Road Test TV filmed an awesome drag race on a quarter mile between this ultra-rare 1969 Camaro ZL1 COPO 9560 with an aluminum 427 Cl engine with 430 hp against a 1971 360 AMX. This Camaro is only 1 of the 23 ZL1 models fitted with an automatic transmission.
So, who do you think will win this race? Enjoy the show!
