In 1959, Aston Martin introduced a series of DB4 GT. This series is characterized by a shortened wheelbase and high performance than the standard sedan DB4. Due to the shortened wheelbase rear seats were not provided. The engine included three two-chamber Weber carburettor and two distribution elements, enhancing the standard engine performance to 302 hp. This extra power increases the speed up to 246 km / h and allowed to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 6 seconds. Another feature of the GT series is the sporty design and cover of a fuel tank placed on the rear fenders. Perspex lights adorned the front of the car.

GT Series produced from 1959 to 1963. In this period were released 75 copies. Italian manufacturer Zagato has developed 19 bodies from among those cars.

In 1960, cars with Zagato bodies were presented at the Motor Show in London. These manually collected cars were issued to surpass Ferrari. The shorter wheelbase, lightweight construction, the engine of 314 hp and a top speed of 258 km / h made them competitive.

In 1960, Aston Martin has sent the latest DB4GT version to Italy for the body of Bertone’s Giorgetto Giugiaro. Custom car was soon presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 1961. Constructed of steel, making it 90 kg. heavier than the standard DB4 aluminum, Bertone design echoes the design of Ferrari at the time. The car has been privately owned for a few years and then returned to the Aston Martin, for a complete redesign in 1986. This car is one of the most unusual Aston Martin cars ever.
