1953 Porsche 550 Le Mans/La Carrera Panamerica Coupe

Porsche 550 Coupe with chassis number 550-001 is the first vehicle in a series of 550. It made its debut in the 24 Hours of Le Mans race in a couple with its “twin” -- 550-002 chassis, and took the second place in the class. Its first race was won in the 1000 km of Buenos Aires, and after -- in the 12 hours of Sebring, both in the “1500 cc” class. Later, it was prepared to participate in the fourth annual Carrera Panamerica race, held in Mexico at the time, which was one of the most prestigious transatlantic race and Porsche appeared in it for the first time. The car was driven by Hans Herrmann who won in the “S 1.5” class. The car was produced in a single copy.

Chassis 550-002 is the second car of the series and the last compartment 550. The drivers inside both cars were Hans Herrmann, Helm Glockler and the two pilot -journalists Richard von Frankenbert and Paul Frere. Both cars showed the speed of 124 mph (about 225 km/h) at the Mulsanne track, a record for the class. The outcome of the race for Porsche became 1st and 2nd places in the class of “1500 cc”. Later the 550-002 made in the 1000 km of Buenos Aires and the 12 hours of Sebring, in both races finished in 2nd place after the 550-001. It was also produced in a single copy.
