1948 Tucker Model 48 Torpedo

Preston Thomas Tucker was exactly the man who sincerely wished he could build a car of the future. He already had experience in the construction of racing cars, and there was also a military fleet of armored vehicles with machine-gun turret on his account, but unfortunately, it has not started production.

His next the brainchild was the car Tucker 48, later renamed Tucker Torpedo. In 1946, Preston announced that his car will be the most advanced in technical terms, a comfortable, accelerate to 100 km / h is in just 10 seconds, and the price will not exceed US $ 2,500. It was a sensation!

Alex Tremulis came up with the design for the car, the appearance was so action-packed, and very different from all the other cars of that time, which further increased the interest in this model. Also the Torpedo combined many innovations, here are some of them: aerodynamic body, shatterproof glass, safety belts, reinforced frame of the roof, independent suspension, fuel injection system, disc brakes.

51 cars were released, 48 of which are running to this day. Now the Tucker Torpedo does not go under the hammer at a million dollars, and is considered one of the best vintage cars.
