1973 Dodge D100 Club Cab
Dodge was a pioneer in the extended cab truck class with the introduction of the Club Cab with the 1972 models. In 1972, (1973 in Canada) was released the Dodge D100 Club Cab, to bring people more comfortably, or to store goods inside the cab, safe and out of time.
With the release of this truck a further innovation was followed in 1972 and the Series D issued a rounder shape and innovations such as independent suspension. There also appeared a club cab two-door that extra space behind the occupants offered. Furthermore thousands of D’s went into military service as M-880/890 as part of the US aid when Chrysler came close to bankruptcy in the 1970s.
Tim Vincent wrote: “The only difference I have found to date [in the Club and the regular cabin] is the way the front hangers are attached to the structure, instead of rivets, bolts that hold there are on the main hanger. This was a two-door cabin with small rear windows that had more space behind the seats than the standard cabin, but not as long as the four-door Crew Cab. The year of 1972 also saw the introduction of the 440-cubic-inch V8 engine which was used as an option for the truck. The Club Cab had transverse seats for a third passenger (or two small passengers).
The 1972 D-series became famous on the TV show Emergency!, where was the paramedic rescue patrol vehicle highlighted during all seven seasons of the popular series.
